PRESENTS:

Positive Psychology in the Workplace

by

Glen McCarty

Most have heard that employees are the most valuable resource for an organization.  That means that we value and support those employees but how do we recruit, select, train, develop and lead those employees to develop the most value for the company and the employee?  There are many fads and very popular authors presenting their view of success and many are extremely helpful to specific employees.

This presentation will discuss Positive Psychology in the Workplace better known as Positive Psychological Capital (PsyCap).  In general, Positive Psychology looks at developing the positive in an individual instead of just treating psychopathologies.  PsyCap applies that approach specifically to the workplace.  PsyCap can be useful to almost any organization and the principles have been scientifically developed and tested thoroughly by the scientific method.  It is a construct but the approach has been proven many times.

For the past ten years Glen has worked as the Group Vice-President for CGCPI and The Dunbarton Group.  Prior to his current assignment, Glen worked at Sony Electronics at various positions, including Senior Manager – Human Resources.  Glen spent five years in the Navy as a Naval Flight Officer.  Glen recently graduated with a Doctor of Psychology (PSYD) degree and has SHRM-SCP, SPHR, and Six Sigma Black Belt certifications.  He has been active in WHRMA for the last 10 years and is a past president.  Glen loves the type of HR work available in a medium-sized business.  Glen says it is a pleasure to see actions taken result in immediate differences for the employee.  The ability to make a positive difference in the life of an employee is the most rewarding aspect of our calling.

Glen has been married to his wife, Therese for 25 years and has two daughters and six grandchildren.  He loves to travel, is addicted to reading, putters at painting, and hacks at golf!
